The International Institute for Franchise Education (IIFE) at Nova Southeastern University will host its fourth annual Emerging Franchisor Conference (EFC) on November 5-6, 2009 at the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
This exclusive networking and educational conference is aimed at founders, CEOs, COOs, Presidents and key senior staff members who are seeking to grow their franchise systems. EFC will feature prominent national franchisors and service providers who are highly regarded experts in franchise development, franchise financing, legal and regulatory issues, social networking, and operations compliance. The conference format offers an open exchange of ideas that will address the challenges and opportunities unique to franchise systems with 300 or fewer franchises. Attendees will earn 300 Certified Franchise Executive credits.
This year, the IFA’s 2009 Entrepreneur of the Year, Tariq Farid, will kick off EFC as the keynote speaker. Farid is founder, president and CEO of Edible Arrangements International, which specializes in creating exquisite, hand-sculpted, fresh fruit arrangements. He is responsible for setting the company’s strategic direction and for the licensing of new franchises across the U.S. and internationally.
Farid launched the first Edible Arrangements store in 1999 in East Haven, CT., inspired by the convergence of three trends: Americans’ growing consumption of fresh fruit, the robust growth in the specialty food market and the increasing dollars Americans were spending on gifts. The first Edible Arrangements franchise opened in 2001, and the current total is now over 850 stores. Growth continues unabated, with an average of 25 franchise signings a month.
EFC’s keynote speaker during the conference’s second day will be the winner of the 2003 Global Student Entrepreneur Award, Joe Keeley, President and CEO of College Nannies & Tutors, the franchisor of the nation’s largest nanny and tutor company. Keeley launched his first business from his dorm room in college and it is now a national franchise with offices on both coasts and in the Midwest. He brings real-life entrepreneurial experience in a high-energy, yet practical format to entrepreneurial events worldwide. He is also the founding partner of a second franchise concept, Live Green, Live Smart Builders.

Babcock, CFE, founding director of IIFE. “We’ve designed IIFE’s Emerging Franchisor Conference to address these specific issues and to provide a forum where franchisors from around the country can come together to network and discuss the unit economics that will help drive their businesses forward.”
